NZZ am Sonntag:

🌏 Around 60,000 people work in Ukrainian scam centers — nearly two-thirds of the workforce of the country’s legal banking sector.

🌏 At its peak, the industry may have generated up to $1 billion per month.

🌏 Investigators say some operators paid $10,000–15,000 a month for protection from corrupt officials and law-enforcement contacts.

🌏 Victims have been identified in at least 29 countries. Russians accounted for only 10–15% of targets.

The centers increasingly shifted toward Europe and the US, using fake investments, forex and cryptocurrency schemes. In one case, an American transferred $1 million while believing his account had grown to $6 million — the other $5 million existed only on his screen.

🌏 In one Swiss investigation, losses linked to a single platform reached almost 4 million Swiss francs.
