This bathtub is 130 years old.
In the late 19th century, the Scottish firm Shanks & Co., based in the small town of Barrhead near Glasgow, produced bathtubs that were truly remarkable for their time.
Just imagine such a device back then!
It is worth noting, by the way, that the tub was made of cast iron.
The engineers not only incorporated an overhead shower above the tub but also provided several water-delivery options: one could take a standard bath, use the overhead shower, or utilize separate side-mounted water jets.
One such model was known as "Shanks’ Independent Spray and Plunge Bath"—a combination bathtub featuring an independent water-spraying system.
In 1892, it was recognized by the British Sanitary Institute.
The price for such a unit started at 27 pounds; a version with a copper enclosure cost 35 pounds—a very high price for that era.
