Curious study out of China on the therapeutics of classical music for “treatment-resistant” depression.
The researchers hooked up electrodes to the brain to make painstakingly detailed analyses of physiological responses, all in order to tell us what philosopher Lyndon LaRouche always tried to tell you: Classical music is the best medicine that there is in the universe:
“Depression poses a significant global public health challenge, affecting approximately 4.4% of the world’s population, and is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Approximately 50% of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) experience treatment-resistant depression (TRD), defined as a lack of response to conventional therapeutic interventions. Novel antidepressant treatments are urgently needed.
“In the non-pharmacological treatment of depression, music listening has emerged as an easily obtainable modulatory approach with wide-ranging potential applications. Music evokes emotions, making it a valuable tool for studying affective responses and their neural correlates. Recent advancements in the neuroscientific study of music-evoked emotions have enhanced our understanding of the neural underpinnings of human emotion.”
