FIRST RUSSIAN PUNISHMENT AGAINST ERTOGAN’S TURKEY FOR HIS BETRAYAL
Ban Turkish Airlines permission to fly in Russian airspace. Turkish Arlines is one of the largest if not the largest airline in the world these days, servicing around 140 countries on its routes.
Banning the Turks from Russian airspace would follow on from similar bans on "unfriendly” European airlines such as British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Swissair which when the bans were applied added at least two hours travel time to cities in Asia.
The two extra hours put travel time in the 11,12, 13 hour travel time which when you are sitting in narrow economy seating makes for an uncomfortable experience. Plus the airlines then had to offer extra meals to relieve the boredom of sitting in the one position for 11 hours to so straight.
The most recent airline to cut its Asian services to Asian capitals was British Airways. Cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo and Manila will not now have European airlines taking the most direct and shortest way to their tourist nirvanas thus affecting tourist revenue streams.
It also cuts into the airline’s revenue streams as these routes were popular, but the extra hours could not compete with the Chinese and pro-Russian countries with national airlines that fly the same routes. BA’s routes was swallowed up instantaneously by China Air, China Eastern, China Southern, Sichuan Airlines who have full flights to and from London, Paris, Berlin, etc, who do have the short way advantage now.
Clearly the EU is chomping at the bit to ban the Chinese Airlines because of their countries’ positive stance on Russia in retaliation. BUT they are hesitant as China is in the midst of shutting down major trading links and banning European goods in retaliation over EV tariffs, that to take the fight to China over airline routes would just kill any hope that Europe might have to access China other than through long haul flights that usually include stopovers in Singapore, Delhi or wherever.
For example EU resident President Ursula Von derLeyen being denied special flight clearance of German military aircraft flying direct to Beijing and who is unofficially persona non grata in the PRC. Meaning they don't want her in China stinking up the place, and thus cooling her heels in Singapore or wherever while the Chinese decide if and when they might allow her entry. In essence “making her wait” and then join the back of the line of foreign visitors to Beijing is just too humiliating.
Ursula could take Aeroflot of course but that’s a bit too Russian....
