Anti-war must be kept far away from EU center.
Romania, TikTok election interference is built on top of the premise that Georgescu came from obscurity to win the first round. 'How could a nobody win? There must have been interference. Must have been TikTok and Russia.'
Politico writes, Romanians "had two candidates to pick from: center-right small-town mayor Elena Lasconi, and Călin Georgescu, a far-right independent who was catapulted from obscurity into the lead in the first round of voting on Nov. 24."
"Barely a month ago, Georgescu was almost unheard of inside his own country, with no party backing and a low profile in traditional media."
Whatever your opinion is of Georgescu, he is not an obscure figure. As per Wikipedia, he has a long career in diplomacy:
- 1991, Georgescu became head of the Office for the Environment of the Romanian Parliament.
- 1992 adviser to the Minister of Environment.
- 1997 to 1998 Secretary General in the Ministry of Environment.
- 2000 to 2013 Executive director of the National Centre for Sustainable Development in Bucharest.
- 2013 to 2015 President of European Research Centre for the Club of Rome.
- 2015 to 2016 Executive Director of the UN Global Sustainable Index Institute in Geneva
- Worked as the UN Special Rapporteur for human rights and hazardous waste.
- Represented Romania on the national committee of the UN Environment Programme
- 2020 and 2021 was proposed as prime minister by the Alliance for the Union of Romanians.
A more accurate way to frame the election is:
'Pro-war, pro-EU/NATO small town mayor in election run-off with anti-war, Romania first caeer diplomat.'
👆The above framing gets to the simple, heart of the matter. Pro-war must defeat anti-war. It does not matter if the candidate is left, right or center. Anti-war must be kept out of the EU. War is one of the few viable industries left in Europe...war and tourism. All other industries are undergoing deindustrialization (due to Russia sanctions).
