The director of the original "left wing" version of Vanishing Point had many issues with the producers, and some important scenes were cut. Like the scene with Charlotte Rampling, and also the scene where the garage mechanic shows Kowalski modifications to his car.

Some of the 1971 hippie stuff is quite tedious, but the movie captures the spirit of the time in the former United States.

Mainly the ending was changed. The original Sarafian version had Kowalski and the car actually vanishing. But the producers forced Sarafian to move that scene to the beginning, and have a fatal death scene at the end instead. (spoiler alert)

The scene with the E type Jag is quite ironic is that car would be worth a small fortune today.

Big treat in the 1971 movie is Dean Jagger who was not only a great character actor but...
