I like Mr. Z and want Pakistan’s mediation to succeed. But there are two important issues that must be clarified.

Nr. 1: Mr. Z’s explanation of breakup of Pakistan is, let’s say, inaccurate. East Pakistan broke up and became Bangladesh after many years of internal strife within the country. The ultimate trigger was the refusal of the military president (a West Pakistani) to hand over the power to Sheikh Mujib (of East Pakistan) after his party won the absolute majority in national elections. The subsequent conflict led to a genocide of about a million Bangladeshis by the west Pakistani army. Bangladesh became independent in the ensuing civil war.

In this war India did support Bangladesh. But India DID NOT engineer the breakup.. Mr.Z loses credibility by misrepresenting the history.
