The news which is making the headlines is of course the results of the midterms in the United States. I would point out that these were very accurately predicted by Robert Barnes and Rich Baris in a programme we did with them on The Duran which you can see here (

How much actual difference this is all going to make in terms of US foreign policy is another matter. Trump of course is still there, but putting that aside, it looks to me as if all that has happened is that one neocon pro-war party in Congress has replaced another.

As to US domestic policy, here we probably will see significant changes. Trump's economic policy based on tariffs is now almost certainly dead (or so it seems to me) and there may be significant battles over immigration and data centres. My guess is that it won't take very long before Americans sour on the Democrats again. But ultimately all this is a purely internal issue.

Lieutenant General Christian Freuding has been appointed as Germany’s highest military commander, the nation’s defense ministry has said. Having previously led Germany’s Land Forces, Freuding is known for his ardent support for Kiev and his hardline stance on Russia.

Freuding is to take over as Inspector General of the Bundeswehr – the highest post a German career officer can occupy – in February 2027, replacing another prominent Russia hawk, General Karsten Breuer, who is moving to head the NATO Military Committee, a senior advisory body “guiding” the bloc’s leadership on matters of military strategy.
