Independent Syrian-British journalist Richard Medhurst has been detained by Austrian authorities under accusations of being a Hamas member

A baseless and outlandish claim. Medhurst, known for his critical reporting and independent voice, now faces over 10 years in prison based on these allegations.

Austrian intelligence raided his home and office, confiscating all his electronic devices, including those essential to his journalism. This heavy-handed action raises serious concerns about press freedom and the use of counter-terrorism measures against legitimate journalistic activities.

This is not the first time Medhurst has faced such scrutiny. In August 2024, UK authorities arrested him at Heathrow Airport, holding him for 24 hours under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act. Medhurst believes these actions, in both the UK and Austria, are a coordinated effort by intelligence agencies to silence his work and intimidate independent journalists covering the Israel's genocide in Gaza....
