as per @Roger4747 post #PatrickHennigsen made the observation that the Israelis and the US are intentionally egging Iran on to attack infrastructure inside the gulf states so that a collapse of those fragile governments could end up in their favor and that Israel and US would have control of the oil and gas of those countries. I think Iranians know this although at times they appear to be caught unawares. I think they understand what’s in front of them and what they have to accomplish.

Trump made a horrible decision to attack Iran on Feb. 28. Prof. Mearsheimer says that the source of this decision was David Barnea, the head of Mossad, who convinced Netanyahu that the attack would result in a quick and easy victory. Netanyahu and the Israel Lobby told Trump to go ahead with it. Iran did not fold, and now the US and Israel are stuck in a war of attrition in which Iran has a major strategic advantage.
