The German government intends to propose Annalena Baerbock as the UN General Assembly President for 2025-2026. This information was confirmed by the DPA agency, citing sources in the German government. The General Assembly is expected to elect Baerbock in June, and she will take up her new position in September.
Baerbock is currently acting as Germany's foreign minister. She plans to present her work program in New York in May. According to the DPA agency, her election is considered a formality.
