Dnipro, Sunday lunchtime, 20 April, Easter Sunday
Just wanted to wish everyone a happy and relaxed Easter Sunday. It's a magnificent day in Dnipro today, 25 degrees, not a cloud to be seen anywhere, and no alarms since last night.
I drove into the centre today so my partner and dedushka could get baskets of food blessed, in preparation for a huge lunch at our place for around 45 people from our area. Everyone has been cooking since yesterday and as usual our terrace table which seats 26 will prove its strength and how well it was built. If you have not attended a Ukrainian Easter lunch you can only imagine how full the table gets. We have people starting to arrive shortly, some for lunch, another bunch for a late lunch, early dinner.
On the drive into Soborna Square I would normally pass, or be passed, by around 6-10 ambulances. Today not a single one, nor any military transports or convoys. If there was civilian planes in the sky, something no one in Ukraine has seen for years, it might be possible to imagine this beautiful country and its people living in peace.
Let's hope this is the last we spend at war. Only one man can guarantee that, so let's hope Trump has an epiphany this weekend and walks away. If he does, the war will be over in a month.
