French minister condemns acts of vandalism against Jewish establishments in Paris

PARIS, June 1 (Xinhua) -- French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau has condemned the acts of vandalism against five Jewish establishments in Paris, according to French news channel France 24.
"I am deeply disgusted by these heinous acts targeting the Jewish community," Retailleau said on his X account.
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo also condemned the acts of "intimidation" in the strongest possible terms.
"Anti-Semitism has no place in our city or in our Republic," she said, cited by France 24.
An unknown man vandalized overnight from Friday to Saturday with green paint the Holocaust memorial in Paris, two synagogues and a Jewish restaurant.
According to the French news channel, the French Jewish community, one of the largest in the world, has for months been on edge in the face of a growing number of attacks and desecrations of memorials since the Gaza war erupted on Oct. 7, 2023.
Israel launched a ground and air offensive in Gaza following the Oct. 7, 2023 attack, in which Hamas-led fighters killed about 1,200 people and took 251 hostages, according to Israeli figures.
Israel closed border crossings and curtailed the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza on March 2. Limited access has been permitted since May 22.
Israel resumed its assault on Gaza on March 18, following a two-month truce with Hamas. Since then, 4,149 Palestinians have been killed and 12,149 injured, according to Gaza-based health authorities on Sunday.
