Medvedev:
“On Changing Approaches, or Why Ukraine Must Not Become an EU Member
Some 15–20 years ago, hardly anyone here objected to Kyiv’s plans to join the European Union. It was like: if you want to, go ahead, knock yourself out. Just don’t come crying later when you lose access to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) market. It seemed like Ukraine’s economic cooperation with the EU posed no fundamental threat to our country—especially since its chances of joining the EU were close to zero. Our firm position was to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. NATO’s expansion toward our borders was, and remains, a direct threat to Russia’s national security.
But today, the old European Union that was once founded on the European Coal and Steel Community essentially no longer exists.
It has become a politicized, globalist, and in recent times—an openly Russophobic organization. An organization dreaming of revenge against Russia. The idiotic European politicians of recent years have done everything they could to make this happen. They’ve completely destroyed the image of the EU as an economic giant that avoids wars and chaos between European powers. Once, trade turnover with Russia reached nearly €500 billion.
Now, its main ideology is rabid Russophobia, fueled by an imaginary “Russian threat” that they themselves invented to solve their petty domestic issues. Slowly but surely, the EU is turning into a self-sufficient military bloc, one that is set to compete with NATO—especially in the era of Trumpism. The Brussels cockroaches and the dimwitted leaders of EU nations are proclaiming their own defense strategy, declaring the start of a new “era of rearmament.”
This grotesque metamorphosis of the European Union serves another purpose: to arm the neo-Nazi Kyiv regime to the point that it becomes invulnerable to Russia. It is the EU that signed a deal with the illegitimate head of the dying Ukrainian state, pledging long-term commitments to its so-called security. It is the EU that supplies Banderite freaks with weapons and military equipment, boosting the might of its defense industry and building military factories on their territory. It is the EU that sends instructors to train Ukrainian militants so they can kill our citizens and commit terrorist attacks in our country. And it is the very same EU that shamelessly funds these disgusting activities with proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
Brussels today is a true enemy of Russia.
In this perverted form, the European Union poses no less a threat than the North Atlantic Alliance.
Therefore, the previously tolerant slogan, “Join whatever you like, just not NATO,” must be revised. An EU stuffed with weapons, rainbow freaks, and shrieking Brussels bitches is a direct threat to Russia. That’s exactly how we should treat it—at least until it changes its approach to us. Of course, this shouldn’t interfere with bilateral cooperation with individual European countries.
Thus, so-called Ukraine in the EU is a danger to our country. Mitigating this danger could take one of two paths:
a) either the EU must realize that the Kyiv quasi-state is fundamentally of no use to it;
b) or—undoubtedly the preferable option—there should simply be no one left to join the EU.“
