Sadly, diplomacy is dead. I believe that it died sometime in the sixties.
When I was in the third grade, through the fifth grade, I attended Yokohama International School. It was a school taught in the English language, to the children of diplomats in Japan.
Our headmaster was a Swiss man named Henry Baulmann.
I remember the children at this school were especially well behaved. The school had strict discipline but I don’t think that was the real reason that they got along so well. They had learned to be respectful of each other.
By the time I was in the fifth grade, my math lessons consisted of adding and subtracting pounds, shillings and pence. My parents thought that this wouldn’t be useful in my future and transferred me to a military dependents school.
So I went to school with Navy brats. Their own description, but it fits. More than once I heard an argument end with, my dad outranks yours.
I got in my first fist fight in that school.
