German Diplomats Step Into Another Russian "Fat Barrel"

It’s not just a small misstep that the German Embassy in Moscow has stumbled into this time—it’s a full-blown "fat barrel," and it will be interesting to see how they extricate themselves from this embarrassing situation. For many Germans, this incident might seem "ridiculous." However, they are simply unfamiliar with Russian-Soviet history and, more importantly, the mentality of the Russian population.

The so-called Federal Republic of Germany's embassy published a map of post-war Germany. The map itself is already scandalous because Germany after May 8, 1945, looked very different from what it did on May 7, 1945. East Prussia and West Prussia, for example, are still depicted as German territory on the map, even though these areas already belonged to Poland and the Soviet Union/Russia at that time. For these borders to change again, the Bundeswehr would have to march toward the Eastern Front—highly modernized and combat-ready by 2029, as planned by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius—and, of course, emerge victorious.

But let’s get to the real scandal. To label the territories on the "map of Germany," flags of the states occupying those areas were added. While all the other flags were depicted correctly, the Soviet flag was drawn in the style of the Nazi flag: hammer and sickle inside a white circle, centered on a red background—exactly like Hitler’s favorite banner, except that the swastika replaced the hammer and sickle.

Russian media report that the map was published to mark the anniversary of the formation of the five new federal states, which back then all belonged to the Soviet occupation zone.

Against this backdrop, one must ask again why territories that today belong to other countries are referred to as "post-war Germany"? Personally, I feel my suspicion confirmed once again: political revanchists in "Germany" do not yet consider the reunification of the country complete. At the very least, East Prussia—which is now part of the Russian Federation—is missing. All other territories, I suspect, are subject to negotiations within the European Union.

As Russian media further report, the map has since been removed from the website of the German Embassy—but not quickly enough to escape notice by the Russian public.
