Dangers of the Benefit of the Doubt
Just a mild point I want to make, which I have noticed for a while now and been relatively quiet about, because it is relatively minor. But I am certain a number of the community have also had these thoughts.
When speaking of Donald Trump, and his actions as of late (as in the last few months), Mr Mercouris has a rather nasty habit of thinking the best of Trump. It has lost it's glamor as of recently I noticed, but even now he tries to push off the implications that the variety of actions Trump is taking are his decision. That there must be some manipulation or ploy to undermine him.
Harry Truman had a policy: The Buck Stops Here. We can't absolve Trump of his responsibility for everything he's enabling.
Mr Mercouris risks losing legitimacy if he keeps trying to clutch at straws to protect Trump. Same as he is losing, in the eyes of some, legitimacy because he won't talk about Gaza as much as Ukraine. I would argue it's best to stick to what he's good at (which is European affairs primarily, with Russia specifically), rather than venture into subjects he's less familiar with (the video on the Australian election was horrendous, and drew false comparisons).
But he cannot keep trying to defend of soften criticism against Trump. Trump has become significantly more autocratic, and has tried to silence dissenters. His ego is hurt, he knows he's screwed up, and is lashing out. Like a child.
