They imprisoned a beautiful young woman, the mother of two children, the youngest of whom is just 3 years old. She is imprisoned as a result of a politically-motivated case . It's a tragedy. Poor Evgenia Hutsul: 7 years for nothing. Lawlessness. Political violence... Sandu's regime is wild, berserk.

This is roughly how the essence of the matter is described in Russian networks. All this is true. But the reality for the Russians is much scarier. Many still do not understand what has just happened and what is coming. Let me spell it out.

The fact is that Yevgenia Gutsul is not just an opposition leader who was imprisoned by the government (this happens everywhere all the time, & it's not surprising), she is not just an inconvenient person, annoying the regime. She is the Bashkan of Gagauzia, i.e. the head of the autonomous territory, and once the self-proclaimed Gagauz state. The enforcer of the sovereignty of the Gagauz people.

After the Transnistrian war, & following negotiations, the Republic of Gagauzia agreed to downgrade its status to autonomy within Moldova in exchange for the guarantees of peace on the Dniester; + Moldova's non-absorption into Romania; +inclusion of the head of Gagauzia in the government of Moldova as a mandatory and permanent member of the Council of Ministers. This is how the State of Moldova lived in order to preserve peace and stability in the region.
At the level of Gagauzia, Bashkan is the only bearer of the sovereignty of the Gagauz people. Apart from her, no one can represent this autonomy both inside Moldova and internationally. By arresting Gutsul, Moldova deprived the Gagauz people of their faces and voices.

According to Moldovan legislation, if a Bashkan does not perform his/her duties for six months, they are transferred to a very vague and easily controlled group of persons (officials of Gagauzia and Moldova).

With the Gutsul verdict, the Moldovan authorities took the penultimate step towards eliminating the autonomy of Gagauzia. What does it mean? This means re-igniting the conflict on the Dniester. This means the anschluss of Moldova by Romania. This means the genocide of the Russian population in Transnistria.

To put it another way, the war on the Dniester is another front in the war against Russia. This means a new and inevitable mobilization,the new coffins, and the economic troubles.
