I’m receiving troubling reports from Aleppo that the Julani regime is increasingly targeting businesses in the industrial city. And believe it or not, that’s not the worst news. Let me explain.
In today’s Syria, it’s widely known that Damascus rarely revolts, and sadly, sectarianism runs deep in Idlib, Hama, and Homs. Aleppo, however, never joined the sectarian insurgency in 2011. That’s precisely why Turkish intelligence, working with the CIA, unleashed war on the city in mid-2012 after training enough Takfiris from everywhere except Aleppo.
Aleppis remember the siege, the hell cannons, and the kidnappings. They also remember coexisting peacefully with every component of Syrian society. In Aleppo’s industrial zones, you’ll hear Syrian Sunni merchants speak positively about the contributions of minorities. This is a city shaped by centuries of trade and interaction, connected to the world through the Silk Road.
That’s why I believe the only revolt capable of truly breaking the Julani regime will come from Aleppo.
And if this terror regime keeps provoking the honourable people of Aleppo, it may well face the end it deserves.
