WHY THE WEST WANTS TO DESTROY RUSSIA
Russo-Phobia or strategic interest?
There is a continuing debate about whether the US and Europe wish to destroy Russia because of Russo-Phobia or whether they wish to destroy Russia to steal its resources and nuclear deterrent; to get rid of a peer competitor in the military domain.
Doug McGreggor et al, has put forward the view more in line with the first possibility that the US has NO strategic interest in Russia, but this simply is not true. The US understands in exquisite detail the extent and profitability of resources that Russia has; Gas, Oil, minerals and agricultural land and they also understand the scale of the Russian nuclear arsenal and its growing capability.
For the resources, every US resource company and hedge fund, important political donors, prepare future strategic planning and modelling so they know where their future profits will come from. They have spread sheets and databases which estimate costs, risks and revenue for everything. I worked with these planning tools on Power Company acquisitions back in the early 2000's. They are a complex, detailed and accurate technology developed over the last fifty or so years. The resource industry groups have "trade unions" industry lobby groups and think tanks where they plan and conspire against their enemies, the government and the people, to construct narratives and strategies for the government to implement.
The superlative wealth of the US elites is a consequence of their understanding of where their next hundred billion is going to come from and in making sure the government puts in place the necessary policies to ensure this. US Business has a philosophy that arises from the class war they imported from the UK, that business is a zero-sum game where they win by someone else losing. There is no sharing of the benefits. In this respect, they have pursued a policy of Neo-Colonialism to takeover other countries resources and take away the profits. They have done this over a range of products from bananas to oil. They have not only done this in the poor countries of the global south, they have also done it to countries like Australia, where they extract huge quantities of gas and sell it to foreigners. Australia now can't afford its own gas because we have to pay "world parity prices" for it.
The 700+ US bases are not about US security, you don't need 700 bases to do that, it's all about neocolonialism; the theft and control of other people stuff.
Capitalism requires constant growth to survive and as resources dwindle in one place they must be replaced by another and this is front and centre of strategic interests. Without a strategy for constant growth, a country will decline economically, and its security will be degraded. To claim that Russia and Ukraine are not of critical strategic interest to the US is just wrong. In fact, Russia is just as important as China.
The idea that the donor class has not communicated the importance of Ukraine and Russian resources to the US economy to Trump by PowerPoint and spreadsheet is ludicrous. Trump will have been told,
"We want Russia and you will not do any deals with them that get in our way and here's what it's worth."
Just imagine Trumps reaction to the trillions at stake. This approach will have been carried out in spades in the US Congress so they won't allow any deals with Russia. They are completely owned by the donors who want Russia's stuff.
There in no irrational phobias about any of this, it's about greed and continuing on the Neocolonial legacy of the US and European States of the last 500 to 600 years. A legacy that made Europe and America the world's richest countries over the last two hundred years.
The US and Europeans will never give up on Russia's destruction, the ongoing wealth of their rich elites depend on it. And their elites call all the shots. To them, it is strategic, and it is they who are America's strategic planners, not Donald J Trump.
