Europe has withdrawn 95% of gas it pumped into storage facilities for heating season
Gas withdrawal from UGS facilities in EU countries amounted to around 623 mln cubic meters on February 9
MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. Net withdrawal of gas from underground gas storage (UGS) facilities in Europe has reached 52 bln cubic meters (bcm) since the beginning of the heating season, representing almost 95 0% of the volumes injected during the summer, according to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE).
Gas withdrawal from UGS facilities in EU countries amounted to around 623 mln cubic meters (mcm) on February 9. The total rate of withdrawal from storage facilities since the beginning of the month is currently the third-highest for February. The total volume of fuel in UGS facilities currently stands at 39.9 bcm.
Temperatures in Europe this week were significantly warmer than in the previous seven-day period. Above-zero temperatures are forecast for most of the week in the region.
The share of wind power in the EU’s electricity generation averaged 19% in January, compared to 21% in February. The average gas purchase price in Europe in February was $409 per 1,000 cubic meters, compared to $415 in January.
The last season of gas withdrawals from European underground storage facilities ended on March 28, 2025, with 33.57% of reserves remaining. Currently, European underground gas storage facilities are 36.13% full (16.65 percentage points lower than the average for this date over the past five years), compared to 48.5% a year earlier. Since the start of the heating season on October 13, EU countries have withdrawn approximately 57 bcm of gas from storage. Net withdrawals have reached almost 52 bcm, or 95% of the volume injected in the summer.
