> Investor Masha Bucher apologized publicly Monday in the wake of revelations that she is mentioned more than 1,600 times in the Epstein files and fostered a close personal and professional relationship with the convicted sex offender.
> In a post on X (opens in new tab), Bucher said she first connected with Jeffrey Epstein when she was in search of protection from the Russian government. “He made me feel I could be safe from the regime, someone with power and connections who could shield me from those threats,” Bucher wrote to her more than 30,000 followers. “I was naive; I didn’t dig deep enough early on.”
Who believes that?
> Bucher, 36, founded San Francisco-based Day One Ventures, a fund she has claimed has roughly $600 million in assets. Since pivoting from public relations to venture capital around a decade ago, she has invested in some of the Valley’s most high-profile startups, including Elon Musk’s xAI and two ventures associated with Sam Altman: biometrics and crypto company World and brain tech startup Merge Labs.
> Reached for comment Monday evening, Bucher said she was at dinner with her founders and, on the advice of lawyers, could not speak to reporters.
> Bucher has a reputation as a relentless networker who hosts extravagant parties and aggressively introduces her portfolio founders to journalists, potential customers, and even romantic partners (opens in new tab). “She’s our most helpful investor by a long margin,” said Max Marchione, cofounder of longevity startup Superpower.
I other words, she is not working and is amazingly like that fake-ass gal with the blood test who tuned herself exquisitly to press money from old men, complete with the Female Steve Jobs image.
> Born and raised in Russia, Bucher joined the pro-Putin youth movement Nashi at age 15 and quickly rose into a leadership role. Her involvement is chronicled in “Putin’s Kiss (opens in new tab),” a documentary named for a widely circulated photograph showing Bucher kissing the Russian president on the cheek. The film also documents her eventual break from Nashi, after which she relocated to the United States.
> “By my late teens, I saw Putin’s corruption and evil up close,” Bucher wrote on X, adding that she was branded a traitor after obtaining a U.S. green card in 2017.
Apparently she need to lear, getting involved with Epstein. Another explanation is this is just public-pleasing after she decided to relocate. Who knows!!

> “I love America, the values it stands for, and the incredible people building the future here,” she wrote on X. “Day One Ventures and my founders are my life. I’ll keep fighting for them and for what’s right.”
