Trump's sideshow tonight featured his signal ability to campaign like the game show host and showman that he is.
Even though Trump missed the elephant-in-the room (Israel and Epstein) for the most part --- and allowed charlatans like Lutnick and Bessent to strut their glad-handing stuff in public view (with a nod to Kushner and Witkoff) --- mainly the show was about a few chosen that might enhance his PR at this particular point in his largely failed presidency.
Forget "how hot" the USA is with the Dow at 50K. Beside embarrassing high court justices about the tariff decision (behavior Trump revels in) I found it strange that Trump did not highlight US military forces stranded just beyond the striking range of Iran, with more than a few hollow words.
And beside the sad sacks who genuinely/unfortunately fell foul of Biden's ill-fated goon squad invasion (the subject of which managed to embarrass a few disgruntled dems like Omar / Tlaib) Trump's alternate thrust was to embarrass the Joint Chiefs. He did that with a feeble attempt to label Iran as the number one state sponsor of terror in the world, when all and sundry present know that such dubious honor actually belongs to the USA.
Trump only referred to Na3i Israel by mentioning the return of the Gaza hostages, and said that for every Toasted Tribe, Palestinians had to dig up at least one hundred of their own dead. Heil Herr Trump! That's a pretty good kill-ratio of 100-to-1, which Heydrich's ghost would be ever so proud to acknowledge, I'm sure. And Trump's repeated claim of "resolving eight new wars" peacefully is of course poppycock.
Trump did relate that at least two airmen were wounded in the Maduro operation to abduct Maduro from Venezuela, something I did not know, as the Maduro abduction is always claimed to be a "clean operation" (read: crime) where no one was killed or injured. Trump also brayed about 50 million barrels of stolen Venezuelan oil. (NB fuel prices in Washington state are now up alarmingly.)
Indeed, the Elite criminals on display in the US chamber tonight were among the most egregious and alarming I've seen. Yet the worst bit was having to sit through this display of warmed-over Hollywood-style garbage. The only saving grace? Stickers on lapels that said: "Release the [blank] files!"
By the way, since the presentation consisted largely of histrionics and showmanship, I was surprised that el Trumpo did not mention the Guthrie case. Maybe not surprised, since that's a genuine tragic abduction. While Trump is his own evangelical tragedy who will be lucky to finish out three more years, there is nothing genuine about him.
In brief, Trump is an accomplished showman, and I don;t know what drugs PTB's give him, but he seems to pull it off on occasions like this in more ways than one. Even so, it was a long boring ordeal which has nothing to do with the State of the Union, which is okay, since there is no "union" anyway... only a disgrace.
