UK behind deadly Storm Shadow missile attack on Russian city โ Kremlin
Six people were killed and 42 injured after British-made Storm Shadow missiles hit the city, according to local officials
A Ukrainian strike on the Russian city of Bryansk using UK-made long-range Storm Shadow missiles would have been impossible without the direct involvement of British experts, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.
The regional governor, Aleksandr Bogomaz, said the attack on Tuesday killed six people and injured 42, slamming the bombardment as an โinhumane terrorist act.โ
He later confirmed that the strike had involved an unspecified number of Storm Shadow missiles, which have a range of up to 560 km. Bryansk is located just over 100 km from the Ukrainian border.
Commenting on the strike on Wednesday, Peskov said the type of missiles โcouldnโt have been launched without British specialists. We understand that perfectly well. We are fully aware, and of course we take it into account.โ
He added that the strikes again show the necessity of the continued military campaign against Ukraine, as its success will ensure that โthese barbaric actions by the Kiev regime donโt continue.โ
โOne of the goals is to demilitarize Kiev and strip it of the ability to carry out attacks like this,โ Peskov stressed.
Ukraine has taken responsibility for the strike, saying it was targeting a local microelectronics factory. Local media reported that the attack came during a shift change during which some employees were heading to the exit.
Bogomaz announced a mourning day in Bryansk, saying that 20 people remain in local hospitals, while nine of the most severely injured had been transported to specialized medical facilities.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow has โquestionsโ about the lackluster UN reaction, which issued a condemnation of strikes on civilians in general without naming the culprits.
