🇪🇺 The European Parliament has voted to launch negotiations on stricter EU Return Regulations over migrants.
A right-leaning alliance of the EPP, ECR, Patriots for Europe, and Europe of Sovereign Nations secured a majority vote, breaking the traditional centrist “firewall” against immigration restrictionist parties.
The reform advances external return hubs, stronger obligations for migrants to cooperate with authorities, and mutual recognition of return decisions to speed up deportations of those without legal residence rights.
Three separate requests by the S&D, Greens/EFA, and The Left were made to veto the reforms as a violation of civil liberties.
