URSULA FONDA LYING
Elon Musk has cut straight through Ursula von der Leyen's lecture on democracy, asking the obvious question Brussels never wants answered.
"If democracy is the foundation of freedom, surely your position as leader of the EU should be elected directly by the people?"
That is the entire contradiction of the European Union in one sentence. Von der Leyen speaks as though she carries a direct democratic mandate from the people of Europe, yet the President of the European Commission is not elected by ordinary Europeans in a direct public vote. The position is produced through the machinery of Brussels, proposed by EU leaders and approved by the European Parliament, then presented to the public as democratic authority.
This is why so many people across Europe no longer trust the language of "democracy" when it comes from unelected institutional power. They hear the sermon, then look at the structure behind it.
Brussels wants obedience to be called democracy, centralisation to be called freedom, and public criticism to be treated as a threat to Europe itself. Musk simply asked the question millions of Europeans already understand: if the EU is so democratic, why is its most powerful executive figure not chosen directly by the people she claims to represent?
