Simplicius on Russia-Ukraine war:
The first and most important change which gave Ukraine a newfound advantage was the removal of Biden-era restrictions on the US providing targeting and authorizations for long-range strikes deep into Russia. The second, was the lifting of restrictions on Ukrainian Starlinks operating on Russian territory. The third and perhaps most important change of all: Ukraine’s entire production “rear” has been relocated to various countries of the West. The Hornet drone used for 'deep' strikes is manufactured in California by a company backed by ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
As a result, Russia increased reactive strike drone use eight-fold, launching 1400 units since
the start of the year compared to just 180 in 2025. There’s a reason why the Ukrainian Minister of Defense Mykhailo Federov has just announced that Ukraine aims to fill a whopping 50% of its assault and infantry positions “with foreigners.” Why would that be?
And Russia launched the first 16 of its Starlink-equivalent satellites, called the Rassvet
constellation. The Russian system has several key advantages over Starlink.
Starlink is primarily designed to provide coverage to the most densely populated
areas. Bureau 1440, on the other hand, has chosen a near-polar orbit,
with an inclination of 81.4 degrees. This means that the satellites
will fly over the territory practically from south to north, covering
the whole of Russia.
