FROM RUSSIAN SOCIAL MEDIA:
SOLDIERS FIGHTED TO THE DEATH AGAINST THE ENEMY IN A TRENCH FOR TEN DAYS
"We drank the water we brought with us. Then we drank captured water we found in the trenches. Our troops dropped water to us from drones, but we were still terribly thirsty. We even considered going forward and storming a Ukrainian stronghold to get some water," says volunteer Ivan Karpov, call sign "Kyzyl," about how his group fought for ten days in a "fortified position."
"Fortified positions" in the army are special groups of brave men who follow the assault troops. Their task is to dig into the ground they've just liberated and fight to the death. Two years ago, "Kyzyl" was in a group of ten volunteers tasked with digging in 40 meters from the enemy. The ten days the soldiers held the line merged into one bloody battle. Only an insatiable thirst and daily orders over the radio: "No surrender, no retreat." A volunteer with the call sign "Zazer" was killed in the battle. The remaining nine continued to repel attacks.
Ivan celebrated his birthday, June 14, to the roar of explosions. They can celebrate another birthday by recalling the moment a Ukrainian drone threw a grenade directly into the dugout. The grenade didn't explode—its pin was stuck. "Red" threw it out, but it ricocheted back down. And again, it didn't explode. "We were actually very lucky in that 'fortified position.' No matter how much they pounded us, everyone survived except one," smiles "Kyzyl." They withdrew from their position on orders when rotation came. They carried out their fallen comrade themselves. The 2.5-kilometer road was littered with mines, but everyone made it. The battalion commander gave them seven days of rest, but on the second day, the soldiers asked to return to the front lines. "The war isn't over yet. We simply did what we had to: carried out orders, fought back, held, and didn't give up," Ivan explained.
🙏 "These ten days are an example of the unbending will of the Russian soldier. Hunger, thirst, the death of a comrade—nothing forced our soldiers to retreat. They fought to the death and held out. Eternal memory to the fallen "Zazer." Health and strength to the survivors. Thank you for your heroic deed."
