Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and a government delegation made the first official visit in the history of bilateral relations to the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, where they held talks with President Sadyr Japarov on Friday, June 12.
The Georgian delegation's visit included an introduction to Kyrgyzstan's multifaceted historical and cultural heritage.
The summit's business agenda was no less extensive: the Transcaucasian and Central Asian republics signed a substantial package of bilateral documents, ushering in a new stage of integration cooperation. Key agreements cover transportation, customs regulation, mutual legal assistance, education, and radiation safety, according to news agencies in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
The agreements signed during the Kyrgyz-Georgian summit are expected to take the partnership and relations between the two countries to a new level, noted the Georgian Prime Minister and the Kyrgyz President.
Final Agreements between Tbilisi and Bishkek
Air Transport: A memorandum was signed laying the foundation for new transport corridors and the possible launch of direct flights.
Route Integration: Tbilisi and Bishkek discussed the prospects of integrating the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway under construction with Georgian seaports to access new markets.
Nuclear Safety: Relevant agencies signed a memorandum of cooperation and data exchange on radiation protection, nuclear safety, and environmental monitoring.
Customs: An agreement on the preliminary exchange of information on transported goods. This is expected to accelerate trade turnover and reduce bureaucratic barriers at borders.
Justice: A memorandum of legal cooperation was signed to exchange experience in public services and digitalization. Relevant ministers also signed cooperation programs in state property management.
Humanities and Diplomacy: A memorandum of cooperation, including academic exchanges for students, researchers, and faculty. Joint programs between universities and schools are planned. Agreements on cooperation in sports have been signed.
Foreign Policy: A program of cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and Kyrgyzstan for 2027-2028 has been approved.
In a statement to the media following the Georgian-Kyrgyz summit, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov noted that the parties had discussed in detail the most important issues on the bilateral agenda, the development of political dialogue, trade and economic ties, investment and industry cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian relations.
According to him, the agreements reached will contribute to the further strengthening of Kyrgyz-Georgian relations, the implementation of mutually beneficial projects, and the improvement of the well-being of the peoples of Georgia and Kyrgyzstan. Japarov wished the friendly Georgian people peace, well-being, and prosperity.
