There is reason to dispute much of the official record about what actually happened at Srebrinica, some excellent investigative work has been published by Kit Klarenberg who among a brave band of journalists has been more than roundly criticised for challenging the adopted narrative, much of which I lay at the door of British MSM and their own agenda. Those interested should read their work. That said, I have never held back on that during the Bosnian war horrors were committed by all sides and the scars mentally as well as physically are why I am vehemently anti war.
So why mention it when nothing about it is in the news? Well very often someone says something that sparks reflective comparisons, in this case it was Tucker talking about collective guilt being forced upon those who had nothing to do with the crimes of the past, that just happened to coincide with the UN findings about Israel’s current genocide against the Palestinians, though I think unmentioned are the war crimes against the Lebanese. Nevertheless it made me return to the UN resolution on Srebrinica and specifically the condemnation of Serbia.
The UN’s International Court of Justice ruled that Serbia itself did not directly commit or conspire to commit the Srebrenica genocide. However, the court explicitly blamed Serbia for violating the Genocide Convention by failing to use its influence to prevent the genocide and failing to punish the perpetrators.
So there is my reason, it is the ruling that should chill the bones of all of those leaders who have given sucker to Israel. Those who have not only failed to prevent genocide but actually conspired in their ‘group chats’, engaged NATO forces without the consent of all members of the alliance and engaged their own forces without the explicit permission of their elected parliaments.
The precedent has been set by the ICJ ruling on Serbia and all of them are far more guilty of crimes as worse as history has ever witnessed.
The debate over Srebrinica is not only over numbers but the complexity of the politics of war, of combatants and non combatants, a mixed bag of blame. What I would never dispute is that innocents did die and that is a crime, calling it a war crime when innocents are killed wherever they are is insufficient, it is a crime against humanity. That is the justice that all those who have conspired with Netanyahu and the powers that are responsible for the ongoing violence and destruction in the Middle East should face. I don’t exempt any of them in or out of office, so as Starmer leaves No 10 and a new occupant is to be parachuted in will anything change? Will the hypocrisy of the UN be its demise? Or will they actually do what is their responsibility? A precedent must be a landmark not a mere political event. Just as Serbia had to accept the ruling, then others must too. Let justice be served.
