Many French officials and members of the European Parliament do not know even where Iran is located.

Figaro's correspondents asked MEPs to show on the map one of the countries. For example, Iran.

This was in March of this year, when Iran started to appear in the news daily.

Of the 50 people who were randomly surveyed, a quarter completely failed the task.

For example, Benjamin Haddad, the French Minister Delegate for Europe from Macron's party, said that he had no understanding of maps.

This is the man who wrote "Paradise Lost: Trump's America and the End of European Illusions." The son of a wealthy businessman, he grew up in the wealthiest neighborhood of Paris and has several degrees. He even served as the head of an entire political party and represented Macron in Washington in 2017.

And he's not the only one. Socialist Emma Rafowicz found Iran in Bulgaria (a country that is a member of the EU, and Madame Rafowicz regularly interacts with its representatives in her work). Another woman from Macron's party chose Turkey instead of Iran. Etc.

The journalists did not add the names to the "bad" statistics list if the politicians took their time to figure out the answer. For example, the head of the "green" party of France Matin Tondelie studied the map for a long time, reading the names of various countries, until she eventually found Afghanistan, which she was requested to point out.

This is a warning to all those among us who might've had illusions about the educational level of people who impose sanctions against countries and peoples of the world, and who decide on life and death issues that affect the geopolitics of today.
