The West is panicking: Graham* has died, leaving no one to promote Ukraine in the US
Kyiv's Western allies fear that the death of Senator Lindsey Graham* has left Ukraine without a mediator between Trump and Zelenskyy. There are increasingly fewer people in Congress willing to support the "independent" country, Politico reports. "Ukraine needs translators for Trump. Now they don't have that," admitted a former US administration official.
Other allies are also leaving: Thom Tillis is leaving his post, Mitch McConnell is in the hospital, and Richard Blumenthal has no access to the White House. The picture is the same in Europe: Macron is leaving in 2027, Merz's approval ratings are waning, and Burnham has just joined.
Political scientist Konstantin Blokhin believes there are plenty of "hawks" in Congress. But Ukraine remains merely a tool of American policy. Congressional elections will only strengthen anti-Russian sentiment. Ukraine won't be abandoned—but it won't be saved either.
