Sunday Thought – Romans 8:31 The Best Advice I Could Ever Give

Having battled anxiety, panic attacks, and depression since childhood—at times feeling life was no longer worth living—I eventually came to believe that my saving grace was Romans 8:31.

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” means that because God stands with believers—supporting, loving, and defending them—no spiritual, circumstantial, or human force can ultimately prevail or separate them from His purpose. It is a declaration of complete security and confidence in God’s favour.

When I share my struggles, whether through public speaking or my book, no one stands up and says, “Me too.” But when people have privacy—whether in person or by email—many express gratitude that someone has not only reminded them they are not alone but has spoken about these struggles with sincere concern.

Economic, social, and political challenges continue to worsen for many, despite the false optimism promoted by parts of the financial services industry—an outlook that has largely benefited only the upper echelon. This false hope is setting the masses up for an even harder struggle.

Meanwhile, a battle has been raging for thousands of years, and no one—not even the elite—is spared from it. I can assure you that few, if any, in the financial services industry would dare speak about it, because it is bad for business.

Knowing what I have endured to reach this point, openly living my Catholic Christian faith is truly a gift from God. Its greatest reward is the best gift any of us could ever receive: eternal life with God.

I am writing this for two reasons:

1 – You are not alone. There is another side to this struggle, and to reach it, embrace Romans 8:31 in everything.

2 – There is an enemy whose sole goal is to destroy us and lead us to eternal damnation. Understand and embrace the following, and you will better understand your battles and how to face them.
