🥂 Unidentified man splashes wine into Hungarian premier’s face to protest his policies

BUDAPEST, September 20. /TASS/. An unidentified man doused Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar with wine to express his personal animosity and disagreement with his policies, but the premier joked about the incident, expressing regret that a good drink had gone to waste.

Magyar posted the video of the incident on Facebook (a social media site banned in Russia since it is owned by Meta corporation designated as extremist by the Russian authorities).

The incident occurred when the premier was returning from a trip to the southwestern Hungarian city of Pecs, where he met with his supporters. On his way back to Budapest, Magyar stopped in the town of Szekszard to attend the grape harvest festival there and was invited to a party at a local restaurant. The video shows an elderly man intentionally splashing white wine from his glass toward Magyar. The wine hit the prime minister’s face and shirt, but he chose to downplay the incident, while his security personnel escorted the offender away.

"This ‘gentleman’ was apparently irritated by the fact that everyone was having a great time, and that we were talking and taking photos with hundreds of people. He lacked the courage to come closer and, maybe, to look me in the eyes. And delicious wine from Szekszard gone to waste," Magyar wrote on Facebook.

He ironically referred to the man as former Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s "defeated warrior." However, no information about this man’s identity and political affiliation has been published so far.

This is not the first incident of this kind since Magyar took office. In July, a passerby spat on his back at the platform of the Western railway station in Budapest, where a press conference on railway development was taking place. The government’s press service reported back then that Magyar chose not to press any charges and "wished him good health."

After Magyar was sworn in as the prime minister, he said that he would not seek enhanced security, because it might be inconvenient, and, furthermore, he does not consider Hungary to be a dangerous place.
