Von der Leyen commission loses Covid vaccine case

Brussels officials withheld key details of deals with Pfizer and AstraZeneca worth billions, the EU’s second-highest court has found

The EU Commission concealed details of multibillion-euro Covid vaccine deals with pharma giants Pfizer and AstraZeneca without legitimate reason to do, the European Union’s second highest judicial body has found.

The ruling by the bloc’s General Court covers purchase agreements struck by the EU Commission in 2020 and 2021, at the height of the pandemic, and worth “approximately €2.7 billion” ($2.95 billion), according to the court’s statement published on Wednesday.

In 2021, MEPs requested access to the documents detailing the terms of the deals to make sure that the public interest was protected and the members of the EU negotiating team had no personal conflict of interest.

Brussels bosses only provided them with partial access to redacted documents and refused to reveal the identities of the negotiating team’s members. The Commission argued that was necessary to protect commercial interests and the decision-making process. The MEPs then brought the issue to the court.

“The Commission did not give the public sufficiently wide access to the purchase agreements for COVID-19 vaccines,” the court said in its statement. “The Commission did not demonstrate that wider access to those clauses would actually undermine the commercial interests of those undertakings.”

The court also ruled that “the Commission did not take sufficient account of all the relevant circumstances in order to weigh up correctly the interests at issue, related to the absence of a conflict of interests and a risk that the right of privacy of the persons concerned might be infringed.”

The ruling partly upheld two cases against Brussels and annulled the Commission’s decisions to withhold the data from the public, arguing that such decisions “contain irregularities.”

Brussels promptly reacted to the judgement, which came just two days before a European Parliament vote on Ursula von der Leyen’s bid for a second term as the EU Commission head. She has controversially claimed she deleted key SMS messages between her and Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, and will be the subject of a European Court of Justice ruling on the matter expected this year.

“In general, the Commission grants the widest possible public access to documents, in line with the principles of openness and transparency,” the court said in a statement, adding that it “only partially upheld the legal action on two points” and “confirmed that the Commission was entitled to provide only partial access.”

Brussels also stated that it would “carefully study” the decision and that it “reserves its legal options.” The EU Commission can still appeal the decision to the European Court of Justice – the bloc’s highest judiciary body.

Mouser In Chief is doing what 6 PM´s never could:

Literally WORKING :

Forget the new prime minister for a second (or for any matter at all). Someone else at Downing Street has returned to work faster than anyone expected.
Only hours after the newly and might I add, NON Elected PM Andy Burnham was confirmed as Britain’s new leader, Larry the Cat was already delivering results.
He was spotted outside the now almost infamous black door with a freshly caught mouse.
Larry has served as Chief Mouser to the Kingdom´s Office since 2011.
He arrived from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to tackle the rodent problem that nobody else seemed able to handle.
Larry, one might say, is not only tackling the mice but also the rats as one prime minister after the other is being evicted from this noble title and house.
Unlike the prime ministers who pass through Number 10, Larry keeps his job whenever the government changes.
Burnham is now the seventh leader in 10 years to work alongside him, but Larry’s routine remains unabated, whereas Burnham still ...

The US-Saudi nuclear "deal"; my dear friend Junaid puts it all in perspective:

https://middleeastmonitor.com/20260724-the-nuclear-leash-washingtons-deal-to-put-saudi-arabia-back-in-its-place/

"The United States has presented its new nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia as a gift: reactors, technology, investment, prestige, and the radiant promise of a peaceful atomic future.

Washington is forever giving gifts of this kind. Curiously, they tend to arrive fitted with surveillance equipment, political conditions, and a discreetly concealed choke chain."

"This is not merely a civil nuclear agreement. It is a disciplinary instrument aimed at Mohammed bin Salman — a strategic summons issued to a crown prince who has recently behaved less like an obedient client and more like the ruler of an indispensable state."

"First, it has moved too close to Pakistan. The Saudi–Pakistani relationship is hardly new: money, soldiers, intelligence cooperation, religious patronage, ...

No Alexander Mercouris Live Stream Today

I am afraid I am again unwell, with an infection that has blocked my nose and which has left my throat very dry. I have also had bouts of fever during the day, though these thankfully abate quickly.

I caught this infection from one of my daughters, and it has being going through my family ever since, but I seem to be the worst affected.

I hate missing work because of illness and have struggled through a programme with Neill Oliver. However getting the video done for my own channel today has been an exhausting battle and I am afraid my voice would not hold out for a whole Live Stream.

This is bitterly disappointing and I can only apologise.

I began to fall ill over the weekend and I hope that by later this week I will be better. If so, I will aim to do today's Live Stream on Friday.

However I wanted to give you a "peace" of my mind concerning the "Piece" or piss, as Elensky calls it, as this thing fell to pieces before it even happened.

Coincidentally on the very SAME DAY  this crap happened Saudi Arabia DROPPED the US Petrodollar as a buying currency and NO ONE absolutely NO ONE is talking about this fact anywhere !!!

Hope to see you all asap.
