Hostilities continued intensely until a treaty was signed by Russians. When it flared up again, hostilities did not end until after a second treaty with the British.

Even after Lee & Grant signed in that Farmhouse, hostilities continued and two further surrenders were needed after that.

Fighting ended only after an armistice was signed.

Hostilities in Europe ended when Germany formally surrendered
Hostilities in Pacific ended after formal Japanese surrender

Yesterday was my last day as Minister of Finance of the Federal Republic of Germany. It was an eventful time, and I am pleased that we were able to achieve a lot, for the benefit of Germany, Europe and our partners. I wish my successor, @larsklingbeil every success and the same openness and support that I was privileged to receive. The fact that Lars has been elected to the German parlament with record results for over a decade illustrates that he is a fantastic political leader with the strong endorsement from 🇩🇪 voters.

It was a great honor to serve my country over the past 7 years, both in the German Finance Ministry and the Federal Chancellory.
